Please join Troy Community Works! and listen to local author Joanne Duke Gamblee talk about her book “The Dam Battle” on July 30that 7pm at the Troy Hayner Center. Learn how the residents of Troy and Miami County initially opposed the building of the levees we’ve become so familiar with and hear what went right and what went wrong asDayton leaders tried to build consensus around the dam project that changed the face of the Miami Valley. Come early and enjoy dinner in Troy! This wonderful book chronicles the history of the Miami Valley’s unique levee and dam system while detailing the public protests and consensus building that had to take place. “We are so excited to have a historian of Joanne’s quality here in Troy,” said Martha Harris, Executive Director of Troy Community Works!, “Her previous books have been wonderful to read and enrich our knowledge of local history . The Dam Battle also includes the struggles of building public consensus, which is critical for any planning project.”
The Dam Battle talk will be held at the Troy Hayner Cultural Center at 301 West Main Street, Troy, OH 45373. Mrs. Gamblee will begin her talk at 7pm. The cost of this event is $3 per person or $5 per couple, however participants can come for FREE by showing a receipt that they dined at a local Troy restaurant that day. Following the presentation Mrs. Gamblee will be available to sign copies of her book.
